Cousins Arrested in Pune After Man’s Suicide Linked to Harassment

Authorities in Pune’s Pimpri Chinchwad suburb have apprehended two individuals accused of driving their 20-year-old cousin to suicide, police reported on Sunday. Tejas Bajirao Sonagare, who worked as an office boy at a corporate firm, allegedly took his own life by leaping from the sixth floor of a building in Hinjewadi on February 12, according to an official.

The official revealed that prior to his death, Sonagare posted a video on social media, pointing the finger at his two cousins for pushing him to such a drastic act. In the recording, Sonagare claimed that his cousins relentlessly harassed him, specifically targeting him with questions about his earnings.

After an investigation, police arrested Nilesh Sanjay Punde, 25, and his 23-year-old brother Mangesh, charging them under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The official added that the pair has been placed in custody until Monday as the case unfolds.
