The Prime Minister’s comments come amidst a heated debate between the Centre and the Tamil Nadu government over the National Education Policy (NEP) and its three-language formula. The DMK-led state government has accused the BJP of attempting to impose Hindi, threatening Tamil culture and language. Modi countered these claims by urging the introduction of medical courses in Tamil to benefit underprivileged students. He also pointed out that Tamil Nadu has gained 11 new medical colleges over the past decade.

The DMK, however, remains firm on its two-language policy, rejecting NEP’s provisions as detrimental to regional identity.
