A fire broke out on New York City’s Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday during the city’s Fourth of July fireworks display, triggering concern as flames spread quickly and thick plumes of smoke rose from the site.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident. According to the city’s fire department, two fire engines were deployed to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters were seen battling the flames shortly before 10 pm local time on the bridge, which had been closed to traffic during the fireworks show, The Associated Press reported.
A spokesperson for the fire department said that incidents of this nature are not unusual during large fireworks displays and explained that authorities maintain safety perimeters by keeping spectators at a distance.
