Russian Plane Goes Missing In Far East With Nearly 50 Aboard, Search Started

Moscow : Air traffic controllers lost contact on July 24 with an An-24 passenger plane carrying about 50 people in Russia’s far east, the Interfax and Shot news outlets said. Shot said the plane, operated by the Angara airline, was headed for the town of Tynda in the Amur region bordering China, and was believed to be a few kilometres away from its destination when it lost contact.

Emergencies ministry said the aircraft, operated by the Siberia-based Angara airline, vanished from radar while approaching its destination — the town of Tynda in the Amur region, which borders China. Regional governor Vasily Orlov stated that, according to preliminary data, there were 43 passengers on board, including five children, along with six crew members. All necessary forces and resources have been deployed to search for the plane, Orlov wrote on Telegram.

“An An-24 operated by Angara Airlines failed to make contact at a designated checkpoint a few kilometres from Tynda Airport,” a source was quoted as saying by Russian news agency TASS.
