A powerful bomb blast tore through Peshawar, Pakistan, on Thursday, killing nine people and injuring four law enforcement officers, DAWN reported. The explosion, which struck near the city’s Bani Mara area in the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has sent shockwaves through the community, underscoring the persistent security challenges in the region plagued by militancy.
Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Mian Saeed’s office confirmed the details of the attack to DAWN. According to Saeed, the blast specifically targeted police personnel. “Preliminary findings indicate the explosive device was planted along the path of a police mobile unit,” he told DAWN, suggesting a premeditated strike aimed at law enforcement. The CCPO added that the condition of one of the injured officers was serious, and all four were promptly shifted to a nearby medical facility by rescue services.
Following the incident, a large contingent of security forces rushed to the scene, cordoning off the area to secure it and facilitate initial probes. Senior Superintendent of Police Operations Masood Bangash informed DAWN that investigators are meticulously examining the blast site, collecting evidence to unravel the full scope of the attack and pursue those responsible. This event echoes a recent bombing on September 30 in Quetta, Balochistan, where 10 people died and 32 were wounded near the Frontier Corps headquarters, DAWN reported. Authorities continue to grapple with a surge in such violence, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reporting 45 attacks in the third quarter of 2025 alone, resulting in 54 deaths and 49 injuries, according to the Center for Research and Security Studies.
