Blast At Police Checkpoint In Pakistan’s Dera Ismail Khan Kills 11, Injures 30

A blast at a police checkpoint along a roadside in Dera Ismail Khan city, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of northwestern Pakistan, killed at least 11 people on Saturday, officials said. Another 30 people were injured in the explosion.

The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP, claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement, the Associated Press reported.

Police and rescue officials cited by the Associated Press said the explosion took place after a suspected suicide attacker rammed a vehicle loaded with explosives into the checkpoint and detonated it.

Following the blast, the dead and injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. A spokesperson for the provincial emergency service told AP that some of the wounded were in critical condition.
