Bangladesh: Massive Fire at Dhaka Airport’s Cargo Terminal; Flights Suspended, Several Diverted

Dhaka: A major fire broke out on Saturday afternoon at the cargo terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, leading authorities to suspend all flight operations. The incident occurred around 2:15 p.m., according to a report by The Dhaka Tribune, quoting airport officials.

The fire, which started in the cargo section, quickly spread, producing heavy plumes of smoke that engulfed the area. Videos from the scene showed dense black clouds rising over the airport’s cargo village, prompting immediate emergency response.

Firefighting teams from the airport, assisted by units from the Bangladesh Army and Air Force, launched extensive operations to bring the blaze under control.

As a result, multiple inbound and outbound flights were either delayed, cancelled, or diverted. Several aircraft scheduled for departure including flights to Mumbai and other destinations were left waiting on the taxiway. According to reports, an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Dhaka was diverted to Kolkata due to the emergency situation.

Authorities have temporarily halted all flight movements until the area is declared safe. No casualties have been reported so far, and rescue operations are continuing.
