Teen Knife Rampage At Russian University Hostel Leaves Four Indian Students Injured

In a shocking incident at a university dormitory in Russia, four Indian students were among several individuals wounded in a knife attack on Saturday. The assault occurred at the foreign students’ hostel attached to the State Medical University in Ufa, the capital of the Bashkortostan Republic.

According to Russia’s Interior Ministry, a 15-year-old suspect entered the dormitory armed with a knife and assaulted students living there, injuring multiple people. The attacker resisted arrest, stabbing two police officers who intervened to subdue him. The suspect also inflicted injuries on himself during the confrontation. Authorities have detained the teenager, and Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened an investigation into the case.

The Indian Embassy in Moscow described the event as an “unfortunate incident” and confirmed that several individuals, including four Indian students, sustained injuries. Embassy officials are closely monitoring developments and maintaining contact with Russian authorities. Personnel from the Indian Consulate in Kazan are en route to Ufa to offer direct assistance to the affected students and coordinate necessary support.

Local media reports described chaotic scenes inside the hostel, with eyewitnesses noting blood scattered across the area. Video footage circulated on social media and aired by Russian outlets showed emergency responders transporting injured victims through heavy snow to waiting ambulances for hospital treatment. The severity of injuries to the victims and the attacker remains unclear at this stage.

Russian authorities have not officially released a motive for the attack or confirmed any prior links between the suspect and the victims. However, the Baza channel, which maintains connections to Russian law enforcement sources, reported that the teenager was affiliated with a banned neo-Nazi organization known as NS/WP. According to the channel, cited by news agency PTI, the assailant shouted nationalist slogans related to the Holocaust during the assault and used the victims’ blood to draw a swastika—a notorious Nazi symbol—on a wall.

Ufa in Bashkortostan has become a favored destination for many Indian students pursuing medical and engineering programs, making the incident particularly alarming for the international student community in the region.
