2 Arrested After Knife Attack on UK Train leaves 9 Critically Injured

At least ten people were injured, nine critically, after a stabbing rampage on a train in Cambridgeshire, England, on Saturday evening. Armed police intercepted the train and detained two suspects in connection with the attack, authorities confirmed.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary said its officers are coordinating closely with British Transport Police (BTP) following the emergency stop at Huntingdon station. All injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
“We were called at 7:39 pm with reports of multiple stabbings on a train,” Cambridgeshire Constabulary said in a statement. “Armed officers attended, the train was stopped at Huntingdon, and two men were arrested. Several people have been taken to hospital.”
BTP also confirmed the incident, describing it as a “serious and violent assault” aboard a train heading to Huntingdon, where “multiple people have been stabbed.”
Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the attack “deeply concerning” and thanked emergency responders for their swift action. “My thoughts are with everyone affected. Please follow the advice of the police,” he posted on X.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood expressed sorrow over the “deeply saddening” incident, urging the public to avoid speculation while investigations continue. “Two suspects have been taken into custody, and I am receiving regular updates from law enforcement,” she said.
The East of England Ambulance Service launched a large-scale emergency operation, dispatching several ambulances, tactical commanders, and its Hazardous Area Response Team. Critical care units, including the East Anglian and Essex & Herts Air Ambulances, also transported multiple victims to hospitals.
Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp condemned the “brutal mass attack,” urging swift updates on the arrests and investigation. Paul Bristow, mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, described hearing of “horrific scenes” aboard the train.
The attack caused major disruption to London North Eastern Railway (LNER) services and road routes around Huntingdon as emergency teams responded.
A witness told Sky News he saw one injured passenger running through the carriage saying, “They’ve got a knife, I’ve been stabbed,” leaving trails of blood as others tried to flee.
Police have yet to disclose details about the victims’ conditions or the motive behind the attack.
