13 killed, including 11 children after Pakistan strikes Afghanistan

In a fresh round of hostilities against Afghanistan, Pakistan on Wednesday struck Afghan provinces of Khost, Kunar and Paktika and killed as many as 13 people and injured over 14 people. Taliban chief spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said that those 11 children were killed along with one woman and one man. Like always, Pakistan is yet to take accountability for the strikes.

Background

Since February, Pakistan and Afghanistan have gone back and forth in exchanges across the border. On Tuesday, a border post was attacked in Khyber Pakhtunwa, killing 6 Pakistani personnel. 8 militants were reportedly killed in exchange. Pakistan’s interior minister Mohsin Naqvi attended funeral prayers for the dead Pakistani personnel in Peshawar.

Despite a ceasefire, with the help of China, hostiles have continued between the two countries, Pakistan killed over 85 people, mostly civilians in April. With fresh standoffs with Afghanistan and tensions rising in PoK, Pakistan is engaged on both sides. The western end of South East Asia continues to be in turmoil.
