Ayodhya: The renowned Miyazaki mango from Japan, considered one of the world’s most expensive mango varieties, was offered to Lord Ram at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya for the first time. Popularly referred to as the “Egg of the Sun,” the premium fruit was presented as part of a traditional religious offering.
According to DD India, the mango is priced between Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh per kilogram in international markets, while a single fruit is estimated to cost nearly Rs 1 lakh.
The rare mango was grown by Ayodhya-based farmer Omprakash Singh, who planted the tree nearly two years ago to test whether the Japanese variety could adapt to the region’s climate. The experiment proved successful, with the tree producing around a dozen fruits during the current season.
Following local customs, the first ripe Miyazaki mango harvested from the orchard was offered to Lord Ram at the Ram Mandir along with a Tulsi leaf. Singh said the tradition of dedicating the first produce of the season to the deity has long been followed in the region.
The offering drew attention among devotees and horticulture enthusiasts alike, as the rare Japanese fruit was cultivated successfully in Ayodhya for the first time.
Speaking to ANI, Singh said the Miyazaki mango is known for its exceptional sweetness, high fibre content and nutritional value.
“This is a very famous mango from Japan known as Miyazaki, which is the world’s most expensive mango. It is much sweeter than other varieties, rich in fibre, and packed with vitamins. I planted the tree about two years ago to test its viability in Ayodhya’s climate , and it has yielded about a dozen fruits, each weighing between 150g and 300g. As per tradition, the first ripe mango was offered to the deity. Besides the Miyazaki, I am also growing various other varieties, including Thailand’s ‘Banana Mango’, Australia’s ‘R2E2,’ and Indian staples like ‘Chausna’ and ‘Dasheri’, Singh said.
Mahant Sitaram Das Ji Maharaj, who visited the orchard, described the gesture as spiritually significant. While speaking to ANI, he said the fruit’s colour resembled the brilliance of the Sun God and called the offering a unique and auspicious act.
He also expressed happiness that the world-famous mango had now been cultivated in Ayodhya and hoped that more such fruits would be grown in the future and offered as prasad at the temple.
The successful cultivation of the Miyazaki mango in Ayodhya has generated considerable interest due to its rarity and premium value. Known internationally for its distinctive appearance, sweetness, and quality, the fruit has become a unique addition to Ayodhya’s agricultural landscape.
As reported by DD India, the offering of the first harvested fruit to Lord Ram added religious and cultural significance to the cultivation of the exotic mango variety in the holy city.
