West Bengal Assembly Elections : Poll Timings, Do’s and Dont’s

The upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections in 2026 are scheduled to take place in two phases, with polling set for April 23 and April 29. Authorities have outlined detailed instructions to ensure that the voting process remains smooth, secure, and accessible for all eligible citizens. Counting of votes will be conducted on May 4.
Polling across the state will generally be held between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, although minor adjustments may be made in certain sensitive or remote areas depending on local conditions. Voters are encouraged to verify their polling station details in advance and plan their visit accordingly to avoid last-minute inconvenience.
To cast their vote, individuals must carry valid identification. Accepted documents include the Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) or any alternative ID approved by the Election Commission. Officials stress that proper identification is mandatory to ensure transparency and prevent electoral malpractice.
Election authorities have also issued a list of guidelines outlining appropriate conduct at polling stations. Voters are advised to follow queue discipline, maintain order, and cooperate with polling staff and security personnel. The use of mobile phones inside voting compartments is prohibited, and any form of campaigning near polling booths is strictly banned to maintain neutrality during the process.

In addition, voters are urged to avoid carrying unnecessary items and to adhere to all instructions provided at the polling centre. Authorities have emphasized that following these “dos and don’ts” is essential to ensure a free, fair, and efficient election process.
The Election Commission has reiterated its commitment to conducting peaceful and orderly elections, encouraging citizens to actively participate in the democratic process while abiding by established rules and regulations.
