Pune: A Snapchat conversation allegedly sent by prime accused Siya Goyal, in which she reportedly asked a friend for an Aadhaar card to book tickets for a “wedding that would never happen”, has become the latest twist in the high profile murder investigation of Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal.
The alleged chat surfaced after investigators said they recovered data from a second mobile phone believed to have been used by Goyal. Police suspect the message was part of an attempt to create the impression that wedding preparations were continuing, even as they allege a murder plot had already been set in motion. The conversation is currently being examined as part of the ongoing investigation, and its evidentiary value will ultimately be decided by the court.
According to investigators, the recovered chats suggest that the accused relied on disappearing messages, coded language and nicknames while communicating on social media platforms. Digital forensic experts are analysing these conversations along with other electronic evidence collected during the probe.
The case has attracted nationwide attention since the arrest of Siya Goyal and co-accused Chetan Chaudhary. Police allege that the two conspired to murder Agarwal and took several steps to avoid raising suspicion before and after the crime. Investigators have since examined mobile phones, financial records, travel details and other digital evidence as they piece together the sequence of events.
The alleged Snapchat exchange has become one of the most talked about aspects of the investigation. In the message, Goyal is said to have asked a friend to share an Aadhaar card so she could book tickets for what she described as a wedding that would never take place. Investigators believe the conversation could indicate an effort to maintain a normal public appearance, although they have stressed that the chat is still undergoing forensic verification.
Police have also claimed that they recovered deleted messages from electronic devices using specialised forensic techniques. These messages, along with other digital records, are expected to form an important part of the prosecution’s case if they are admitted as evidence during the trial.
Both Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary remain in judicial custody while the investigation continues. No court has found either accused guilty, and all allegations made by the police will be tested during the trial.
As investigators continue to gather forensic and digital evidence, the alleged Snapchat message has emerged as a crucial lead. Whether it ultimately strengthens the prosecution’s case or not will depend on the evidence presented before the court in the months ahead.
