Weather Report Today : IMD Issues Thunderstorm and Hailstorm Alerts Across India 2026

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a comprehensive weather advisory across several regions of the country, forecasting a significant spell of intense atmospheric activity. Residents in multiple states have been urged to prepare for a combination of heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and high-velocity winds over the coming days.
Widespread Storm Activity Forecast
According to a report by The Times of India, the meteorological shift is driven by a series of western disturbances and moisture incursion from the Arabian Sea. The IMD predicts that northern and central India will be the most affected, with states like Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana expected to witness sudden squalls and lightning. The national capital, Delhi, is also on alert for scattered downpours that could impact evening commutes and local temperatures.
Agricultural Concerns Over Hail
A significant portion of the advisory focuses on the potential for hailstorms in the Himalayan foothills and parts of Madhya Pradesh. As Per The Times of India, these conditions pose a direct risk to standing crops, prompting local authorities to advise farmers to take precautionary measures for their harvests. In addition to the precipitation, wind speeds are expected to reach between 40 to 50 km/h in isolated pockets, increasing the risk of damage to temporary structures and power lines.

Safety and Regional Impact

Southern and eastern states are also likely to experience increased cloud cover and light showers. Disaster management teams across the high-alert zones remain on standby as the weather system moves eastward, with the department providing real-time updates to ensure public safety and minimize disruption to essential services.
