West Bengal Makes ‘Vande Mataram’ Mandatory In All Madrassas

Kolkata: The West Bengal government has reportedly made the singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ compulsory in all madrassas across the state. According to a report by The Times of India, the directive has been communicated to educational institutions under the madrassa system as part of regular school activities.

Officials associated with the madrassa education system stated that the move is aimed at ensuring uniformity in institutional practices and promoting participation in patriotic programmes. The report noted that schools have been instructed to include ‘Vande Mataram’ during official events and assemblies.

As reported by The Times of India, the decision has sparked discussions among education authorities and members of the community regarding its implementation in madrassas functioning under different administrative structures. Authorities, however, maintained that the instruction applies across institutions governed by the state madrassa framework.

The development comes amid continued debates in several parts of the country over the inclusion of patriotic songs and national symbols in educational institutions. State officials have reportedly directed schools to follow the order in accordance with existing educational guidelines and protocols.
