UP Tanker Crash Turns Deadly : 4 Killed In Massive Fire Near Toll Plaza

Kaushambi : At least four people were killed and two others injured after an LPG tanker caught fire near a toll plaza in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district, police said on Thursday. The accident took place on the morning of June 26 near the Sihori Toll Plaza under the Kokhraj police station area. Police said the LPG tanker, which was travelling from Kanpur to Varanasi, lost control and crashed into a divider, triggering a massive fire.

The impact caused a gas leak that spread quickly before the tanker burst into flames, engulfing the area. CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing the speeding tanker hitting the divider moments before the fire broke out. The tanker driver, Dharmendra Dwivedi, a resident of Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh, was trapped inside the cabin and died on the spot after failing to escape the blaze.

On Thursday, two more injured employees — Hiramani Singh from Raebareli and Krishnapal Maurya from Lalitpur — succumbed to their injuries, taking the death toll to four. Two other toll workers are still undergoing treatment at the hospital. Kokhraj Station House Officer Chandra Bhushan Maurya confirmed the latest deaths and said further legal action was being taken. Police have sent the bodies for postmortem examination, while the investigation into the incident is underway.
