Rishikesh: Three coaches of the empty Train No. 14317 Ujjaini Express derailed during a routine shunting operation in the railway yard near Khand Gaon, officials confirmed.
According to the Moradabad Division of Northern Railway, the incident occurred late Monday night around 9:30 pm near Yog Nagari Railway Station. The train was completely unoccupied at the time, resulting in no casualties or injuries.
Railway teams swiftly initiated rescue and restoration efforts, which extended through the night and into Tuesday morning. Cranes and heavy machinery were deployed to lift and remove the three severely damaged coaches from the tracks. Restoration crews worked continuously to clear the affected section and restore normal rail operations as quickly as possible.
Preliminary assessments point to a possible brake failure during the shunting process, though authorities have not yet determined the precise cause. A formal investigation is underway to identify the factors behind the derailment.

Further updates on the probe and timeline for full normalization of tracks are expected in the coming hours.
