Selfie Tragedy at Andhra Waterfall Claims Three Teen Lives

In a heartbreaking incident reported by India Today, three teenage girls drowned while taking selfies at the Mulagummi waterfall in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitharama Raju district on Thursday.
The victims, identified as Trisha (17), Ratnakumari (16), and Pavitra (16), were part of a group of four girls from Jambuvalasa village in Hukumpeta mandal who had gone on an outing to the scenic but remote waterfall in the Ananthagiri hills, near Visakhapatnam.
According to police, the girls were standing on slippery rocks close to the cascading water when they lost their footing while attempting to click selfies. They slipped into the strong current. Officials confirmed that none of the three knew how to swim, which proved fatal as they were swiftly pulled away by the water.
Locals who heard their cries for help rushed to the spot and successfully rescued the fourth girl, who was later taken to a hospital for treatment. However, the other three were swept away and could not be saved despite immediate efforts.

Police teams arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies after a search operation. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to establish the precise sequence of events.
Authorities have highlighted that although the Mulagummi waterfall may appear relatively small and inviting, the surrounding terrain is extremely slippery, and the underwater currents can be deceptively powerful, posing serious risks to visitors, especially in such forested, remote locations.
Police have issued a strong advisory to tourists, urging them to exercise caution near water bodies in isolated areas and to avoid taking selfies in potentially dangerous spots. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the hazards associated with seeking the perfect photograph in nature’s unpredictable settings.
