Bengaluru: Following the leadership change in Karnataka, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will continue to stay at the official chief ministerial residence, ‘Kaveri’, until the 2028 Assembly elections. Meanwhile, newly appointed Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar is expected to relocate to a different government-provided residence.
The decision comes after the Congress leadership completed the long-discussed transition of power in the state, with Shivakumar taking over the top post from Siddaramaiah. Recent developments marked the culmination of months of speculation surrounding a leadership change in Karnataka.
Siddaramaiah to Continue Staying at ‘Kaveri’
According to reports, Siddaramaiah has been allowed to retain the official residence despite stepping down as chief minister. The arrangement is expected to continue until the next Karnataka Assembly election in 2028.
The move is seen as part of a broader understanding within the Congress leadership aimed at ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining political balance following the change in government leadership.
Shivakumar to Move Into Another Government Bungalow
While Siddaramaiah remains at ‘Kaveri’, Shivakumar will reportedly shift to another government bungalow instead of occupying the traditional chief ministerial residence. The housing arrangement reflects the party’s effort to accommodate both senior leaders after the transfer of power.
Shivakumar’s elevation to the chief minister’s post followed discussions within the Congress high command and ended a prolonged period of speculation over Karnataka’s leadership.
Leadership Change Ends Months of Speculation
For months, rumours of a power-sharing formula between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar had dominated Karnataka politics. Both leaders had repeatedly denied any rift and stressed that their focus remained on strengthening the party and preparing for the 2028 elections.
The transition finally took place after Siddaramaiah submitted his resignation, paving the way for Shivakumar to assume office as Karnataka’s new chief minister.
Congress Focuses on Stability Ahead of 2028 Polls
With the leadership issue now resolved, the Congress is expected to concentrate on governance and preparations for the next Assembly elections. The residence arrangement between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar is being viewed as part of the party’s efforts to maintain unity and ensure continuity within the state government.
