Shashi Tharoor On His Op Sindoor Stance Amid Congress Rift Buzz

New Delhi : Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Saturday said he has never departed from the party’s stated line in Parliament, insisting that the only time he publicly differed in principle was during Operation Sindoor, which was launched as a response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack last year.

I have at no stage violated any of the Congress’ positions in Parliament; the only issue on which there has been public disagreement on principle is about Operation Sindoor where I did take a very strong stand, and I remain unapologetic about that because after Pahalgam happened, I myself, as an observer and commentator, I had written a column in the Indian Express, which I think I gave the title ‘After Pahalgam’, they gave it a title ‘Hit Hard, Hit Smart’.

His remarks came amid reports of unease between Tharoor and the Congress leadership, with speculation that he is unhappy over Rahul Gandhi allegedly not acknowledging him adequately at a recent Kochi event and over repeated attempts by state leaders to sideline him. Further in his address, Tharoor said India, while focused on development, should not be pushed into a prolonged conflict with Pakistan, and any action should be restricted to striking terrorist camps.

Recalling Jawaharlal Nehru’s famous line — “Who lives if India dies?” — Tharoor said national security and India’s standing in the world must take priority. Political parties may differ while working towards a better India, but when the country’s core interests are at stake, India must come first,” the senior Congress leader added.
