Comedian Samay Raina has pulled off one of Indian digital entertainment’s most striking comebacks. His latest stand-up special, Still Alive, has become the most-watched full-length stand-up comedy video in YouTube history, crossing 54.2 million views as of April 23.
The special marks Raina’s return to the platform following the India’s Got Latent controversy last year, when he was forced to pull all episodes of the show after co-guest Ranveer Allahbadia’s remarks triggered a nationwide uproar.
A Record Built on Personal Honesty
In Still Alive, Raina opens up about the personal toll of the controversy the helplessness, the mental health strain, and what he described as “irrelevant people” attempting to capitalise on the outrage. That rawness appears to have resonated far beyond India.
On April 22, Raina reshared an Instagram post on his Stories noting that the special had surpassed 53.5 million views. The caption on the post read: “officially turned his biggest controversy into a record-breaking comeback.”
In a statement, Raina said: “Still Alive is the most honest thing I have ever made. I owe every view to the people who never stopped showing up.”
From Controversy to Global Record
Raina announced his comeback earlier this month via Instagram, where he addressed the India’s Got Latent fallout directly and spoke candidly about how the events impacted him.

The special’s global viewership milestone positions it ahead of internationally recognised stand-up specials on the platform a remarkable achievement for an independent Indian creator navigating one of the most turbulent periods of his career.
