Ram Navami 2026:  Ayodhya Date & Surya Tilak Timing Guide

Ayodhya : The annual Hindu festival of Ram Navami, marking the birth of Lord Rama, will be celebrated with great enthusiasm in Ayodhya this year on March 27, 2026, according to The Times of India. Although the lunar calendar places the sacred Navami tithi beginning late on March 26 and extending into the next morning, the city will observe the main festivities on March 27, the report said.

Devotees from across the country are expected to gather in Ayodhya, the historic birthplace of Lord Rama, to participate in elaborate celebrations. Preparations include decorating the city with lights, flowers, saffron flags and rangoli, creating an atmosphere of devotion and joy..

Significance of Surya Tilak Ritual

A key highlight of Ram Navami celebrations in Ayodhya is the Surya Tilak, a distinctive event where a natural beam of sunlight is directed onto the forehead of the idol of Lord Rama inside the Ram Mandir. This phenomenon, made possible by specially engineered optical arrangements involving mirrors and lenses, symbolizes divine blessings and is a major attraction for devotees.

The Surya Tilak will occur exactly at 12.00 pm during the festival, aligning with the sun’s position on March 27. The surya tilak will remain for almost four minutes so as the devotees could get a glimpse of it. Arrangements have been made by the temple trust to ensure devotees to have proper and safe visit to Ram temple during this auspicious day. In addition to this, VIP Darshan has been suspended by the temple trust for devotees to witness proper darshan. In previous years, the ritual has drawn large crowds, with many devotees witnessing the moment as the sun’s rays illuminate the idol’s forehead for a few minutes.

Devotional Fervour and Rituals

Ram Navami is observed on the Navami Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Chaitra and forms a key part of the larger Chaitra Navratri celebrations. Devotees observe fasts, offer prayers, recite verses from the Ramayana, and participate in temple rituals and processions.

In Ayodhya, special pujas, devotional singing, and aarti ceremonies accompany the festivities at the Ram Mandir, bringing spiritual energy and togetherness to participants marking this auspicious day.
