Rajasthan Man Arrested For Pakistani Spy: Jabbara RamTaken To Jaisalmer For Verification

A Rajasthan resident detained on espionage charges was transported back to Jaipur on Tuesday following verification proceedings in Jaisalmer, where a CID team from Jaipur brought him during his four-day police custody. Jabbara Ram was arrested by the Rajasthan CID (Intelligence) on Friday from the Sankra police station jurisdiction in Jaisalmer under provisions of the Official Secrets Act.

Authorities have confirmed that Ram fell victim to a honey trap orchestrated by ISI operatives, subsequently passing on sensitive and strategic details concerning Indian security forces. Following his arrest, he was presented before a court on Saturday, which granted police custody for four days, according to a report in TOI.

The Jaipur CID team brought him to Jaisalmer on Monday, conducting verification exercises across several locations. While investigators searched his residence in the Pokhran area, they found no incriminating evidence during the operation.

Subsequently, he was escorted to Pokhran town, Gadisar crossing in Jaisalmer city, and additional locations where he is believed to have photographed and recorded Army convoys and strategic military movements. According to investigators, Jabbara Ram is alleged to have transmitted images and information concerning the Army, Air Force and BSF vehicles along with troop deployment details to operatives associated with Pakistan’s ISI.

According to official statements, he received instructions to transmit four to five photographs or videos each month. Additionally, he maintained membership in several local WhatsApp groups and stands accused of relaying sensitive information shared within those platforms.

An initial examination of his banking records uncovered several transactions amounting to approximately Rs 70,000, purportedly originating from ISI-connected accounts. Officials have further alleged that a female ISI operative named Muskan enlisted him using honey trap tactics, with forensic analysis of his mobile device reportedly substantiating the transfer of classified information in exchange for financial compensation.

Who Is Jabbara Ram?

Jabbara Ram (also spelt Jhabararam or Jhabbara Ram), a 28-year-old resident of Nedan village in Pokhran tehsil, Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan, operated an E-Mitra centre (digital service kiosk) in his village near the India-Pakistan border. Locals describe him as unremarkable; he had no prior criminal record. Arrested hours before Republic Day, his detention highlights ISI’s targeting of border civilians for low-risk intelligence gathering.

Investigators claim Ram shared sensitive military information since 2024, including photos, videos of Indian Army, Air Force and BSF vehicles, troop movements and Operation Sindoor details via WhatsApp groups and direct chats. He reportedly sent 4–5 updates monthly, even sharing OTPs to enable ISI handlers’ use of Indian numbers.
