Rahul Gandhi To Gyanesh Kumar : We Know You’re Losing Sleep, Will Make Sure You Quit

New Delhi : Rahul Gandhi, on Monday took a swipe at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, saying he was having sleepless nights following the agitations. Rahul Gandhi accused the Narendra Modi government of protecting the Chief Election Commissioner, claiming that the heavy police deployment in central Delhi was intended to send a message that the government was shielding him.

The Congress leader then said the deployment of 20,000 to 30,000 security personnel across Delhi was drawing attention to the government’s handling of the agitation. Our strategy is different. We want there to be a police cordon. We want the country to know that PM Modi is protecting Gyanesh Kumar, he said. We want 20,000 to 30,000 security personnel on the streets. By doing so, they are sending this message to the nation that they are shielding Gyanesh Kumar, he added.

Your government’s 200 officers are in touch with us, he said, without naming the officers or specifying the nature of their communication. He also claimed to have information about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, We have Narendra Modi’s janampatri. He knows it, and I know it too. Gandhi further claimed that he received messages from Kumar and had asked the Chief Election Commissioner to turn approver.

Why is Delhi jailed today? The people’s movement is being stopped. Delhi has turned into a fortress,” he said, questioning the restrictions imposed on demonstrators attempting to reach Jantar Mantar. The Congress leader also claimed that police personnel were questioning why they were being asked to use force against young protesters. He said such concerns were being raised within the Union Home Ministry and among various paramilitary forces.

Gandhi also said INDIA bloc leaders would file a petition in the Supreme Court, adding that the Chief Justice of India had asked them to do so. Details of the proposed petition were not immediately available. The announcement came amid the CJP-led agitation in Delhi, where demonstrators have demanded Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the functioning of the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
