In a significant development for religious tourism in Maharashtra, the Central Railway is set to introduce the first-ever direct daily train service connecting Pune to Sainagar Shirdi. The inaugural run of the Pune-Sainagar Shirdi Daily Express is scheduled to be formally launched on June 17 from Pune Railway Station.
The service addresses a longstanding demand from devotees and visitors seeking convenient travel to the revered Saibaba shrine in Shirdi. Previously, pilgrims had to rely on indirect routes or other modes of transport, often involving transfers that added time and inconvenience to their journeys. This new direct connection is poised to streamline travel, making it easier for large numbers of visitors to reach the spiritual destination.
The flag-off ceremony will take place at 3 pm on Monday, with the Union Minister for Railways participating in the event. Operating as a daily express, the train is expected to provide reliable and efficient connectivity between the two cities, which are approximately 150-200 kilometers apart depending on the route. Travel time is anticipated to be comfortable for passengers, supporting both day trips and extended pilgrimages.

The introduction of this service comes as part of broader efforts to enhance infrastructure for key pilgrimage sites. Sainagar Shirdi serves as a major hub for followers of Saibaba, drawing millions of devotees annually from across the country and abroad. Improved rail access is likely to contribute positively to the local economy by facilitating greater footfall at the shrine and surrounding areas, benefiting hotels, local businesses, and related services that cater to tourists.
For many devotees, the direct train represents more than just transportation it fulfills a practical need that has been voiced for years. Families, senior citizens, and groups planning visits to the temple will particularly appreciate the simplicity of boarding a train in Pune and alighting directly in Sainagar Shirdi without intermediate changes. Railway authorities have positioned the launch as a milestone in strengthening passenger services in the region.
This development underscores the growing emphasis on linking major urban centers with important religious locations through dedicated rail corridors. As the train begins regular operations, it is expected to play a key role in easing congestion on existing indirect services while offering a dedicated option tailored to the needs of pilgrims. Passengers are advised to check official schedules and booking availability closer to the launch date to plan their travel accordingly.
