Srinagar: 14 February – The day when the world turns red for love, India observes it as a ‘Black Day’. The day when people give roses to their loved ones to celebrate valentine, India remembers fallen soldiers. It is a day when Pulwama terror attack took place and our brave 40 CRPF jawans sacrificed their lives. Families across the country were devastated in pain sending shock waves.
What Happened On Feb 14?
On February 14, 2019, a convoy comprising over 60 vehicles that carried almost 2,547 CRPF personnel was traveling along the Jummu-Sinagar National Highway. As soon as the convoy reached Pulwama’s Lethpora, a suicide bomber car loaded with 300kg explosives rammed into one of the buses during 3.10 pm in the afternoon. The explosion was so massive that it killed 76th battalion’s 40 soldiers on spot, rumbling buses and leaving the whole nation in mourning. The impact was so intense that the noise could be heard from several kilometers and a thick cloud of smog emerged due to fire at the site.

Black Day 14 Feb
A quietude fell over the families of 40 soldiers. This incident took the life of someone’s son, father or brother. People vented out their anger by asking for justice. Since then, this day is treated as ‘Black Day’ in remembrance of their sacrifice.
Jaish-e-Mohammed Claims Responsibility
After the attack, Jiash-e-Mohammed (JeM) , a Pakistan based terrorist organization took responsibility for the Pulwama Attack. The attack reignited tensions between India-Pakistan as even the evidence targeted the attack to be orchestrated from Pakistani soil.
Soon after 12 days, retaliation from India took place to avenge the fallen soldiers. On 25 February 2019, India conducted a surgical strike in Balakot. The airstrike targeted JeM’s largest terror training group in Balakot.
Security Beefed Up In Srinagar Ahead Of Anniversary
The wounds of that attack are still fresh, and as a precautionary measure, security forces conducted a surprise search in Srinagar’s famous Lal Chowk area on February 13th. Police searched the hotel and surrounding areas, checking guests’ identification cards and belongings. This step was taken to strengthen security.
