Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked his 76th birthday on Thursday, September 17, 2026, receiving a flood of greetings from senior BJP leaders, Union ministers, and political figures across the spectrum. Born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar, Gujarat, Modi has completed over 25 years in public life, first as Gujarat Chief Minister and later as Prime Minister since 2014.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led the tributes, describing Modi as “the world’s most popular leader, the visionary of ‘One India Excellent India’, the architect of ‘New India’, and our guide.” He praised Modi’s dedication to a “ceaseless national yajna” aimed at bringing happiness, prosperity, security, and pride to 1.45 billion Indians, and called his “Nation First” resolve an inspiration for a Developed India.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed Modi as a “symbol of tireless hard work, sacrifice, and foresight.” He said Modi’s life, rooted in karma as sadhana and national service as its aim, stands as “an epic tale of penance, sacrifice, and unwavering resolve,” inspiring millions.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, BJP leader JP Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and others also extended greetings. Nadda highlighted Modi’s leadership and the collective aspiration for a Developed India, noting indicators of a strong and self-confident nation. Leaders repeatedly pointed to themes of self-reliance, inclusive development, good governance, and public welfare schemes.
President Droupadi Murmu praised Modi’s 25 years of establishing new benchmarks in good governance and giving fresh momentum to inclusive development while balancing modern progress with cultural pride. She wished him good health and a long life to continue his nation-building efforts.
Wishes also came from opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, who simply wished Modi good health and a long life. The Bharatiya Janata Party marked the occasion by launching the month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ focused on service-oriented programmes.
The outpouring of messages underscored Modi’s enduring influence and the focus on his vision for a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
