Ola, Uber, Rapido Drivers To Stage ‘All India Breakdown’ On February 7

Ride-hailing services across India face significant disruptions on Friday, February 7, 2026, as thousands of drivers associated with Ola, Uber, Rapido, and other platforms plan a coordinated nationwide strike. Dubbed the ‘All India Breakdown’, the protest will see drivers simultaneously switching off their apps in a show of solidarity against what unions describe as exploitative practices by aggregator companies.
The action is being spearheaded by the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU), in collaboration with various national labour organisations. Announcing the strike on X, the TGPWU stated: “App-based transport workers across India will observe an All India Breakdown on 7 Feb 26. No minimum fares. No regulation. Endless exploitation.”
In a formal letter addressed to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, the union highlighted longstanding grievances plaguing drivers on these platforms. Without government-mandated fare structures, companies unilaterally set rates, leading to severe income instability and unsustainable working conditions for millions of workers. The letter warned that drivers are increasingly being driven into poverty while aggregators continue to generate substantial profits.
The unions are invoking the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025, which emphasise the need for regulatory oversight, transparent fare mechanisms, and protections for driver livelihoods. Among their key demands are the immediate establishment of minimum base fares by both Central and state governments for all app-based services, including cabs, autos, bike taxis, and goods transport. These fares must be determined through consultations with recognised driver unions, in strict adherence to the 2025 guidelines.

Additionally, the drivers are calling for a complete prohibition on using private, non-commercial vehicles for paid passenger or goods transport, or mandatory conversion of such vehicles to commercial registration, as required under the Motor Vehicles Act and related aggregator rules.
Commuters dependent on Ola, Uber, Rapido, and similar services are urged to brace for travel challenges, particularly during peak hours. While the strike’s impact may differ by region depending on local participation, widespread inconvenience is anticipated in major cities. Passengers are strongly advised to arrange alternative transportation options well in advance to minimise disruptions on February 7.
