Married Man Allegedly Murders Lover, Body Dumped in Bhopal Septic Tank

In a shocking case from Madhya Pradesh’s capital, police recovered the decomposed body of a 33-year-old woman from an iron box submerged in a septic tank on an empty plot in Bhopal’s Nishatpura area. The grim discovery occurred on Thursday evening after local children alerted residents to a foul odour coming from the tank, prompting authorities to drain it and retrieve the container.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) Malkeet Singh told news agency ANI that officers pulled out the tin box containing the woman’s remains, which were subsequently sent for post-mortem examination. Further action would follow the report’s findings, with no arrests announced initially, ANI reported.

Later developments, identified the victim as Ashrafi alias Siya, originally from Gondia district in Maharashtra. Investigators believe she was strangled on Monday by her partner, Sameer—a married man with two children—allegedly assisted by his family members. The body was concealed in the iron box and discarded in the tank near their Kamla Nagar residence to eliminate evidence.

According to police sources, the pair first connected on Instagram about a year earlier. What started as casual online exchanges evolved into a romantic relationship. Three months ago, Siya relocated to Bhopal to live with Sameer. Conflicts soon surfaced due to his existing marriage, leading to repeated clashes between Siya and Sameer’s wife. Neighbours reportedly overheard frequent loud arguments.

Tensions reportedly peaked when Siya pressed Sameer for marriage and demanded money in the event of refusal. A heated dispute on Monday evening allegedly escalated fatally, with Sameer strangling her in anger. To conceal the crime, he reportedly enlisted his brother, mother, and sister. The body was sealed in the box and disposed of during the night between Monday and Tuesday.

While Sameer remains absconding, police have arrested his brother, mother, and sister in connection with the murder and cover-up.

The case highlights the risks inherent in relationships originating on social media, where initial attractions can devolve into violence amid deception, pressure, and family involvement.
