Kanpur: A NEET-UG 2026 aspirant has alleged that her score changed drastically within hours of the declaration of results, sparking fresh debate over the transperancy of the examination process and prompting calls for an explanation from the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The student, Arya Singh from Kanpur, claims she had calculated a score of 609 marks after matching her responses with the official OMR sheet and the final answer key released by the NTA. However, when the NEET-UG results were announced, her scorecard reportedly showed 540 marks. She further alleges that around two hours later, the score displayed on the official portal dropped to just 167 marks.
Calling the incident “unbelievable,” Arya shared her experience on social media platform X, posting screenshots and documents that she says support her claim. Her posts quickly went viral, with many users expressing concern and urging the NTA to clarify what happened.
According to the aspirant, she had verified every response before the results were declared and was confident of scoring over 600 marks. She says the sudden change in her score has left her devastated and unsure about how the discrepancy occurred.
Arya has reportedly submitted representations to the National Testing Agency, the Union Education Ministry and the Prime Minister’s Office, requesting a detailed review of her result and an investigation into the matter.
So far, the NTA has not issued any official statement specifically addressing the student’s allegations. It is also not yet known whether the reported discrepancy was caused by a technical glitch, a correction in records or any other administrative issue.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the importance of transparency in high stakes competitive examinations. NEET-UG is India’s largest medical entrance examination, with millions of students competing every year for admission to MBBS, BDS and other undergraduate medical courses. Given the scale of the examination, even isolated complaints often attract widespread attention.
The latest allegation also comes amid continued public scrutiny of national entrance examinations following the controversies surrounding NEET-UG 2024. Since then, candidates and parents have been closely monitoring every stage of the examination process, from answer keys to result declarations.
While the claims made by the aspirant have not been independently verified, the case has generated considerable discussion online. Many users have called for a transparent review process so that students can have confidence in the examination system.
For now, all eyes are on the NTA, which is yet to respond publicly to the allegations. Whether the student’s score will be reviewed or an official explanation will be issued remains to be seen.
