New Delhi: Delhi has once again reported the highest number of crimes against children and offences committed by juveniles among metropolitan cities, according to the latest data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
As reported by News18 and other media outlets citing NCRB statistics, the national capital continued to dominate the list in both categories, reflecting persistent concerns surrounding child safety and juvenile involvement in criminal activities.
The NCRB report showed that Delhi recorded the highest number of cases involving children among all metro cities. The data also highlighted that the city continued to lead in crimes committed by minors, officially referred to as “Children in Conflict with the Law.” According to figures cited in reports by Hindustan Times and The Indian Express, Delhi registered 2,306 juvenile crime cases in 2024, significantly ahead of other metropolitan cities.
The report indicated that offences ranged from theft and robbery to more serious crimes. Media reports quoting NCRB data noted that Delhi has consistently remained among the top regions for juvenile offences over the last several years.
At the national level, crimes against children have also witnessed a sharp rise over the years. NCRB data referenced by The New Indian Express revealed that such crimes have increased significantly since 2005, with kidnapping, abduction, and offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act accounting for a major share of cases.
The findings have renewed debate over policing, child protection systems, and social conditions contributing to youth crime in Delhi. Experts and authorities have previously pointed to factors such as gang influence, troubled family environments, and exposure to violence as possible contributors to the growing trend.
