Supriya Sule Endures Two-Hour Traffic Snarl on Mumbai-Pune Expressway

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) MP Supriya Sule found herself caught in a severe traffic jam on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway while travelling to Pune to attend a Maharashtra Day event.
In a video shared by the MP, she highlighted the delay, remarking, “It has been two hours.” The footage captured the lengthy queue of vehicles stretching ahead, offering a glimpse into the frustration experienced by hundreds of commuters on the busy highway.
Sule, who was en route for a flag-hoisting programme, engaged directly with nearby motorists during the hold-up. Speaking in Marathi to the driver of a red hatchback beside her vehicle, she prompted a cheerful response of “Jai Maharashtra” from the fellow traveller, illustrating a moment of light interaction amid the standstill.
The massive jam occurred on a state holiday coinciding with the weekend, as many residents headed out of Mumbai. It unfolded on the same day that the ‘Missing Link’ project on the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway was thrown open to the public. Implemented by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), the infrastructure initiative is designed to streamline travel between the two cities and cut down journey times.

Earlier on Maharashtra Day, which marked the state’s 66th Foundation Day, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hoisted the national flag and paid tributes at Hutatma Chowk in Mumbai to those who sacrificed their lives for the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement.
Sule’s video underscored the challenges of highway travel during peak holiday periods, even as new projects aim to alleviate long-standing congestion issues on this vital corridor connecting India’s financial capital with the cultural hub of Pune.
The incident serves as a real-time reminder of the infrastructure pressures faced by daily commuters and long-distance travellers alike in Maharashtra, despite ongoing development efforts.
