Mumbai: A bomb threat claiming that Delhi’s iconic Red Fort would be blown up triggered a high security alert on Saturday after an unidentified caller contacted the Mumbai Police Control Room. The information was immediately relayed to the Delhi Police, prompting a swift response from security agencies and a thorough search operation at the historic monument. Authorities later confirmed that the threat was a hoax, with no explosives or suspicious objects found during the search.
According to police officials, the threat call was received by the Mumbai Police, which promptly alerted its counterparts in the national capital. Teams from the Delhi Police, along with bomb disposal and other security personnel, carried out extensive checks across the Red Fort premises as a precautionary measure. The monument’s security was temporarily tightened while the operation was underway.
After completing the search, officials declared the threat to be false and confirmed that there was no danger to the public or the monument. Investigators are now working to trace the caller and determine the motive behind the hoax threat.
The incident once again underscores the standard security protocol followed by law enforcement agencies in response to bomb threats involving high profile public landmarks. Even when threats eventually prove to be false, authorities are required to treat every alert as credible until exhaustive security checks are completed.
The Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of India’s most heavily guarded monuments, remains under regular security surveillance due to its historical and national significance. Police have not reported any disruption beyond the precautionary security measures, and further investigation into the origin of the threat call is underway.
