Gurugram: A 25 year old man and his 38 year old girlfriend have been arrested for allegedly murdering the man’s wife at a rented accomodation in Gurugram’s Manesar area before fleeing to Nepal, police said.
According to the police, the accused identified as Ankit, had married the 22 year old victim around three months ago. Investigators allege that he was in a relationship with Rajni Devi for nearly three years and the two conspired to kill his wife.
Police said Ankit allegedly took his wife to Rajni Devi’s rented room in Manesar, where he shot her with an illegal firearm. After the incident, the accused allegedly abandoned the body and escaped to Nepal.
During the investigation, police tracked the movements of the two accused through technical surveillance and other leads. They were arrested after returning from Nepal and have since been taken into custody.
Investigators said the firearm used in the crime was allegedly procured from Uttar Pradesh around two months before the murder, suggesting the killing was planned in advance. The weapon has been recovered, police said.
According to the police, the alleged motive behind the murder was Ankit’s relationship with Rajni Devi. Investigators claim the victim had become an obstacle to their relationship.
The accused have been booked under relevant provisions related to murder and criminal conspiracy. Police are continuing the investigation and are examining forensic evidence, digital records and other material to establish the complete sequence of events.
Officials said further legal proceedings are underway, and additional findings may emerge as the investigation progresses.
