Lucknow: In an unusual turn of events in Uttar Pradesh, a married woman who reportedly left her husband to be with her former lover was eventually married to the man she chose with her husband reportedly accepting her decision and helping the couple begin a new life together.
The incident, reported from the Malihabad area of Lucknow, began when the woman, who had been married to a PRD jawan for around a year, allegedly left her marital home and went to Hardoi with a man she had known since her school days.
Her disappearance prompted her family to approach the police. The couple was subsequently traced, following which they were brought back.
According to the report, the woman made her position clear after being located. She reportedly told her family and the police that she did not want to continue her marriage and wished to live with her former lover.
What happened next took the case in an unexpected direction.
Rather than forcing his wife to return, her husband reportedly agreed to respect her choice. With the consent of the families and after the necessary formalities, the woman and her former lover were married at a local temple.
The ceremony reportedly followed traditional Hindu customs, including the exchange of garlands and the couple taking seven rounds around the sacred fire.
The woman’s husband was also reportedly present during the proceedings and later sent her away with her new husband.
The episode has drawn attention because of the unusual response of the woman’s first husband, who, instead of escalating the dispute, reportedly chose to accept her decision after she made clear that she wanted to be with her former partner.
The woman and her former lover had reportedly known each other since their school days, according to the report. She had subsequently married the PRD jawan, but the relationship with her former partner apparently remained significant enough for her to leave her marital home and travel with him.
Police intervention followed after her family reported her missing, eventually bringing the matter into the open.
The reported sequence of events from the woman’s disappearance and police tracing of the pair to the temple wedding has made the Lucknow case an unusual example of a marital dispute ending not in a prolonged confrontation, but with the woman’s stated choice being accepted by those involved.
