In a shocking case from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, police have arrested a 21-year-old man for the brutal killing of his 49-year-old father following repeated clashes over career aspirations.
The victim, Manvendra Singh, owned a pharmaceutical business and was involved in the liquor trade. He had been pushing his son, Akshat Pratap Singh, to prepare for competitive examinations and pursue a career in medicine. Akshat, however, resisted these expectations and had previously run away from home amid similar arguments. Tensions escalated during a dispute on Friday afternoon around 4:30 pm.
According to police, Akshat shot his father dead using a rifle. He then dragged the body from the third floor to a ground-floor room, where he proceeded to dismember it. Some remains, including the torso, were placed in a blue drum kept inside the house. Other parts were wrapped in plastic and discarded near Sadaruna.
The crime unfolded in front of Akshat’s sister, whom he reportedly intimidated into staying silent as he continued the dismemberment.

Manvendra had been reported missing since Friday. Authorities grew suspicious upon visiting the family home, where they discovered body parts in the drum. Intensive questioning of Akshat led to his confession, in which he admitted to the murder and the subsequent efforts to conceal the crime.
A forensic team has since been deployed to collect evidence from the residence. Efforts continue to recover all disposed body parts. Akshat remains in police custody.
Vikrant Veer, a senior officer from Lucknow’s Ashiana area, stated that a formal case will be registered under the appropriate sections of the law, with further legal action to follow.
The incident highlights the extreme fallout from ongoing family pressures surrounding educational and professional expectations.
