Domestic LPG Prices Hold Steady on May 18 Amid Global Tensions

New Delhi: Household cooking gas prices remained unchanged across major Indian cities on Monday, even as geopolitical uncertainties in West Asia and rising global energy costs continue to influence the market. Oil marketing companies have kept domestic LPG cylinder rates stable in the latest revision.

A standard 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder continues to cost ₹913 in Delhi, with prices in Mumbai, Bengaluru and other metros also showing no change. This stability offers relief to households after the ₹60 increase implemented in March.

Commercial LPG prices, however, have risen sharply due to multiple revisions in recent months. In Delhi, a 19-kg commercial cylinder now costs ₹3,071.50, having crossed the ₹3,000 mark. Similar high rates were seen in other cities, with commercial cylinders ranging from around ₹3,024 in Mumbai to over ₹3,300 in Hyderabad.

City-wise LPG Rates on May 18:

New Delhi: Domestic ₹913; Commercial ₹3,071.50

Mumbai: Domestic ₹912.50; Commercial ₹3,024

Bengaluru: Domestic ₹915.50; Commercial ₹3,152

Kolkata: Domestic ₹939; Commercial ₹3,202

Chennai: Domestic ₹928.50; Commercial ₹3,237

Other cities including Gurgaon, Noida, Hyderabad, Jaipur, and Patna recorded the same trend — unchanged domestic prices and elevated commercial costs.

The stability in domestic rates comes as state-run fuel retailers absorb rising input costs, with the government aiming to shield household consumers from further inflationary pressure.

LPG Shipment Arrives in Gujarat

In a related development, a vessel carrying 20,000 metric tonnes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas reached Deendayal Port Authority in Kandla, Gujarat, after crossing the Strait of Hormuz. The Marshall Islands-flagged MV SYMI, which originated from Qatar, docked late on Saturday night.

This shipment arrives amid the ongoing Iran-related conflict that has affected energy movement through the critical Strait of Hormuz. Several India-flagged vessels, including LPG tankers, have successfully navigated the route since early March.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to reduce fuel consumption, limit foreign travel, adopt Swadeshi products, and shift towards natural farming to cut dependence on imported edible oils, in a bid to conserve foreign exchange.

These developments highlight the current energy scenario in India, where household LPG prices remain protected while commercial users face significantly higher costs.
