Karnataka: A relationship dispute turned deadly in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district after a 30 year old man allegedly detonated crude explosives inside a moving car, killing himself while his former partner escaped moments before the blast.
The incident took place on Saturday along a national highway near Tumakuru, around 70 km from Bengaluru. According to police, the man had allegedly forced his former partner into a cab and was attempting to persuade her to reconcile and marry him. During the journey, an argument reportedly broke out after the woman resisted his advances.
Investigators said the man allegedly attackedthe woman with a knife before pulling out crude explosive devices and declaring that they should “die together”. Sensing imminent danger, the woman and the cab driver managed to jump out of the vehicle seconds before a powerful explosion engulfed the car in flames.
The blast completely destroyed the vehicle, and the man died on the spot after being trapped inside. The woman sustained injuries in the alleged knife attack and while escaping from the vehicle. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the cab driver escaped without major injuries.
Police have identified the deceased as Nagendra. Preliminary investigations suggest the attack was driven by a personal relationship dispute after the woman reportedly refused to continue the relationship or marry him. Officers believe the crude explosive devices had been carried by the accused before the journey, although forensic experts are still examining the exact nature of the explosives.
A case has been registered, and investigators are piecing together the sequence of events leading to the explosion. Police are also examining how the accused obtained the explosive materials and whether any additional individuals were involved.
The shocking incident has raised fresh concerns over crimes linked to failed relationships and the availability of improvised explosive materials. Authorities have urged people facing emotional distress or relationship issues to seek lawful and peaceful means of resolving conflicts instead of resorting to violence.
Further forensic analysis and witness statements are expected to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the blast as the investigation continues.
The details above are based on the latest information released by police and media reports available so far. The investigation is ongoing, and additional facts may emerge.
