
Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee sustained injuries during a confrontation outside the Chanditala Police Station in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Sunday. The incident took place while TMC supporters were participating in a protest march and attempting to submit a deputation related to alleged post-election violence in the region.
According to reports, tensions escalated near the police station as supporters of the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came face-to-face, leading to a heated clash. During the commotion, Kalyan Banerjee reportedly suffered a head injury.
Banerjee Alleges Attack by BJP Supporters
Following the incident, Kalyan Banerjee claimed that BJP workers targeted him during the unrest. The TMC leader alleged that he was attacked while arriving at the police station and described the incident as a deliberate assault.
Visuals from the scene showed a chaotic situation outside the police station, with party workers from both sides engaging in protests amid a heavy police presence.

The clash involving Kalyan Banerjee comes a day after another major political controversy involving TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. His visit to meet families allegedly affected by post-poll violence had also triggered protests and confrontations, further intensifying the political atmosphere in the state.
The latest episode has added to the ongoing accusations and counter-accusations between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP over incidents of violence following the recent Assembly elections.

While the Trinamool Congress accused BJP supporters of orchestrating the attack on its MP, BJP leaders rejected the allegations and blamed the ruling party for escalating tensions.
