The Noida International Airport at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh has been renamed Narendra Modi International Airport, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Friday.
Addressing the media, Adityanath said the state Cabinet had approved the proposal and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the project, describing it as a major gift to Uttar Pradesh. He added that the airport is set to emerge as the state’s largest and a significant aviation hub for the country.
Prime Minister Modi had inaugurated the airport on March 28 this year. It received its first commercial flight on June 15, when an IndiGo aircraft arrived from Lucknow.
The airport was developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Swiss firm Zurich Airport International AG, in association with Noida International Airport Limited, the implementing agency of the Uttar Pradesh government. The first phase, built at a cost of Rs 11,282 crore, has an initial annual capacity of 1.2 crore passengers, which can be expanded to 7 crore in the coming years.
It features a 3,900-metre runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft, modern navigation systems, and Instrument Landing System facilities at both ends of the runway. The project has been designed as a multimodal transport hub with connectivity through air, road and other modes, along with high-tech security infrastructure.
