Jaishankar Urges Dialogue And Diplomacy To De-Escalate West Asia Tensions In Rajya Sabha

New Delhi: India has reiterated its call for dialogue and diplomatic engagement to reduce escalating tensions in West Asia, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasising that peaceful negotiations remain the best path forward.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha during the ongoing Parliament session, Jaishankar said the government continues to believe that “dialogue and diplomacy should be pursued to de-escalate the tensions.” His remarks came amid growing concern over the ongoing conflict in West Asia and its potential impact on regional stability and global security.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the minister told lawmakers that the developments in West Asia are a matter of serious concern for India. He pointed out that the region is geographically close to India and holds significant strategic importance for the country.

Jaishankar reminded the House that the Indian government had earlier issued a statement on February 20 expressing deep concern over the rising tensions. At that time, New Delhi had urged all sides involved in the conflict to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could further escalate the situation.

The minister also highlighted India’s stakes in the region, noting that millions of Indian citizens live and work across Gulf nations. Because of this large diaspora, the government is closely monitoring developments and taking steps to ensure the safety and well-being of its nationals.

Jaishankar further said that the Indian government remains committed to supporting efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability. India’s position, he explained, is to advocate restraint, promote diplomatic engagement and prioritise the protection of civilians affected by the conflict.

The statement in Parliament comes at a time when tensions in West Asia have raised concerns globally, with several countries closely watching developments that could have wider geopolitical and economic implications.
