Government Job, Property At The Centre Of Chilling Jaipur Murder Plot; Daughter Among Seven Arrested

Jaipur: In a case that has stunned Rajasthan, a 23 year old woman has been arrested for allegedly masterminding the murder of her own mother by hiring contract killers, with police claiming the motive was to gain a government job on compassionate grounds and take control of family property.

According to Jaipur Police, the accused, identified as Ayushi Sharma, allegedly conspired with relatives and hired assailants for around ₹7 lakh to eliminate her 45 year old mother, Neeraj Sharma. Investigators say the group attempted to disguise the killing as a fatal road accident by using a speeding Scorpio SUV to run over the victim.

The incident took place on July 3 in Jaipur’s Pratap Nagar area. Police said Neeraj Sharma had just dropped her son at a coaching centre and was returning home when the SUV allegedly struck her at high speed. She died on the spot, while the driver fled, initially leading authorities to treat the case as a hit and run.

The investigation took a dramatic turn after the victim’s brother expressed suspicion and lodged a complaint alleging foul play. During the probe, police claimed they uncovered evidence suggesting the crash had been meticulously planned over several months and was, in fact, a contract killing.

Police allege that the motive stemmed from a dispute over a compassionate government appointment. After the death of Neeraj Sharma’s husband about a year ago, she was appointed as a Lower Division Clerk (LDC) in a court under the compassionate appointment scheme. Investigators said Ayushi wanted the job herself and was unhappy when her mother accepted the appointment instead. Authorities also cited an ongoing family property dispute as another alleged reason behind the conspiracy.

According to investigators, Ayushi allegedly enlisted the help of her uncle, cousin and other associates to execute the plan. Police say seven people have been arrested in connection with the case, while one alleged conspirator remains absconding and efforts are underway to trace him. The vehicle believed to have been used in the crime has also been seized.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ranjita Sharma said the investigation found that what initially appeared to be an accident was actually a pre planned murder. Police are continuing to gather forensic and digital evidence as the accused face legal proceedings.

The case has triggered widespread public outrage, with many expressing shock over allegations that a government job and property dispute could have led to such an extreme crime. The investigation remains ongoing, and further charges or arrests are possible as police continue their probe. The accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
