Jaipur: In the settling day of 19 June, an intense breakout involving a roadside momo seller and the police officials took place in the outskirts of Jagatpura’s Mahal Road, Jaipur. The police officials were in the process of clearing the street vendors and their stall to make way for the “VIP” movement which included a chief ministerial convoy and only a few moments before convoy’s arrival, the police faced a wayside shopwoman, who recently, not more than 25 days into the establishment, began to run a momo selling stall suffered burnt injuries in a scuffle over the clearance of the stall.
The victim’s family claimed that a policeman pushed her cart during the quarrel, resulting into the spilling of the boiling hot water onto the woman’s body. Reshu Gupta was forced to run this stall after facing a rejection in a government job while having a Bsc. degree with the record of candidatures in several competitive examinations. Reshu reported that around 6:30pm, she was setting up the cart and putting the water to boil on the stove according to the daily routine, during this a police vehicle arrived and the personnel asked to remove the cart. “I told them that I was moving it and warned them that there was hot water in the steamer,” she said. “Despite this, a policeman came and pushed the steamer, causing boiling water to spill over me.” further adding “One side of my chest and left arm has been completely affected. I’m only 27 years old and not even married. I can’t even imagine what my future holds,” she said while undergoing treatment in a hospital. Squeling in the aftermath of the incident, the police vehicle left her unattended. When questioned the police, they said that they were clearing roadside vendors due to the planned VIP movement and maintained that the circumstances leading to the burn injuries are under investigation, with both sides giving differing accounts.
However, Reshu’s sister alleged that the policeman approached them for the compromise and settlement including the offer of the medical expenses but Reshu sticked to recieving an accountability and justice for the mishap.
