India And UAE Negotiating A Defense Deal For BrahMos And Akashteer: Report

According to media reports, India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are reportedly in advanced talks for a significant defense export agreement that may involve the sale of the Akashteer air defense system and the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, which is thought to be among the fastest cruise missiles in the world.

With Abu Dhabi expressing interest in bolstering its air and missile defense capabilities amid changing regional security dynamics in the Middle East, the proposed pact would represent a major extension of India-UAE defense cooperation.

India and Russia collaborated to develop the BrahMos missile, which is renowned for its fast speed and multi-platform launch capability from land, sea, and air. In contrast, the Akashteer system is a sophisticated automated air defense network that was created in India to integrate and manage air defense activities on the battlefield.

According to reports, the talks are still in their early stages, and because of its cooperative development structure, any possible export of BrahMos would need Russian clearance. Officials say that given current strategic relationships, this is unlikely to become a significant obstacle.

India has been aggressively promoting defense exports in recent years, as interest in domestic systems like BrahMos and Akash variants has grown internationally. If the transaction goes through, the UAE can become one of the most well-known clients.
