India will mark its 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026, with the main national ceremony at the historic Red Fort in New Delhi. The programme features the ceremonial flag hoisting and the Prime Minister’s address to the nation from the fort’s ramparts. Citizens wishing to attend must obtain an official entry pass in advance due to strict security arrangements.
The Ministry of Defence manages bookings through its official Aamantran portal. This is the authorised platform for e-invitations and tickets for major national events. Ticket categories and prices used in the previous year included General at ₹20, Standard at ₹100 and Premium at ₹500. These figures should not be assumed for 2026 until confirmed on the live booking page.
To book online, visit the Aamantran website directly and avoid unofficial links. Once the booking window opens, select the Independence Day 2026 option. Log in with a mobile number and complete OTP verification. Enter the required personal details, which may include uploading a photograph or identity information. Choose the number of tickets within the permitted limit, select the available category, and complete payment through the options provided, such as cards or UPI. After confirmation, download the e-ticket and keep both a digital and printed copy if needed. Carry matching identity documents on the day of the event.
Offline tickets may be available at designated counters or government offices in Delhi, but locations and timings change yearly and must be verified through official channels. Never purchase from unauthorised sellers.
Attending the ceremony differs from a regular visit to the Red Fort. The area faces extensive security checks, and a standard tourist ticket is not valid. Reach the venue early, as the programme begins in the morning and screening takes time. Check the final list of prohibited items, which in previous years restricted cameras, umbrellas, handbags, food containers and water bottles. Use the Lal Quila Metro station on the Violet Line, but note that special arrangements or access changes may apply.
The 2026 event holds added significance as the 80th Independence Day, with emphasis on youth participation under the “Yuva Shakti” theme. Vande Mataram is also expected to feature prominently, coinciding with its 150th anniversary. Note that the August 15 ceremony centres on flag-hoisting and the Prime Minister’s address, distinct from the Republic Day parade held on January 26.
Follow only official instructions for a smooth experience.
