Hyderabad: A 32 year old software engineer died after allegedly entering a temple unclothed, taking an idol of Goddess Ammavaru and jumping into a nearby pond in Hyderabad’s Medipally area, police said. The incident has triggered a detailed investigation, with authorities examining the circumstances that led to her death.
The deceased, identified as Tejaswini, reportedly arrived at the temple in Peerzadiguda on Thursday. According to police, she removed her clothes before entering the shrine, took the idol and walked towards a nearby pond, where she entered the water while carrying it. Her body was later recovered during a rescue operation.
Police said the idol was not recovered along with the body. The Disaster Response Force (DRF) has been deployed to search the pond for the missing idol.
Investigators have questioned the woman’s mother and are examining CCTV footage, phone records, financial transactions and other evidence as part of the probe. Police are also looking into an alleged death declaration reportedly left behind by the deceased, though officials have not confirmed its authenticity or disclosed its contents.
Authorities have not established a motive behind the incident and have not announced any evidence of foul play. Officials said the investigation remains in progress and all possible angles are being examined before drawing any conclusions.
The incident has drawn widespread attention because of its unusual circumstances. Police have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information until the investigation is completed.
