Heavy Gunfire Along LoC: Alert Troops Foil Infiltration Attempt In J&K

On Friday night, there was heavy cross-border shooting along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Rajouri sector of Jammu and Kashmir for almost two hours. According to sources, the Indian army halted a purported attempt by terrorists to infiltrate from across the border.

Around 9:50 am, the Pakistani side started fire without cause, according to officials. The Indian Army soldiers manning the border replied after spotting a suspicious activity. No casualties were reported.

While the location is still under increased observation, a search operation was initiated on Saturday morning to see whether any infiltrators were present.

According to security experts, Pakistan turned to fire along the Line of Control in order to divert attention from the escalating internal unrest. Pakistan is currently battling major insurgencies in Balochistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir (PoK), where it has had to resort to using brutal force on it’s own citizens after years of mismanagement, economic distress and massive corruption. Along it’s northern border, Pakistan has been involved in skirmishes with Afghanistan over the Khyber Pakhtunwa provinces, where it has restored to target innocent civilians by bombing them with its air force.

Since Operation Sindoor, this is the first significant breach of the truce along the Line of Control. Only small-scale occurrences involving eight to ten rounds of gunfire were documented prior to this.

Pakistan used severe retribution immediately following Operation Sindoor, which took place from May 7 to May 10 of last year. In the second week of May, Pakistani troops breached the ceasefire around fourteen times, attacking civilian areas in the Poonch and Rajouri sectors because they were unable to match the Indian Army’s firepower.
