EC Chief Gyanesh Kumar Promises Fair Elections In Five States

Delhi: With assembly elections approaching in five states, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has reaffirmed the Election Commission of India’s commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent electoral process. In an interaction with Hindustan Times, Kumar emphasised that the Commission would maintain strict neutrality and uphold the integrity of the voting exercise.
According to Hindustan Times, the Chief Election Commissioner made it clear that the poll body has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of violence, intimidation, or inducement aimed at influencing voters. He stressed that every eligible voter must be able to exercise their democratic right without fear or pressure.
The elections are scheduled to be held in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry. These polls are politically significant and come amid heightened scrutiny from opposition parties, some of whom have raised concerns over the functioning of the Election Commission.
Despite criticism, Kumar maintained that the institution remains focused on conducting elections strictly in accordance with the law. He underscored that the Commission has issued clear instructions to both electoral and administrative authorities in the poll-bound states to prevent any irregularities during the voting process.
The Election Commission has specifically directed officials to ensure that there is no booth capturing, coercion, or illegal practices such as fraudulent voting. It has also stressed the need for maintaining law and order throughout the election period to guarantee a smooth and credible process.
As reported by Hindustan Times, the Commission aims to deliver one of the most transparent elections in India’s history. The emphasis remains on creating a level playing field for all political parties, while safeguarding voter confidence in the democratic system.
With preparations underway, the focus now shifts to the implementation of these measures on the ground as millions of voters prepare to cast their ballots in April.
