Ebola Outbreak Leads India to Delay Africa Summit

New Delhi : India has decided to postpone the upcoming India–Africa Forum Summit after concerns grew over the recent Ebola outbreak in parts of Africa. The summit, which was expected to be held in New Delhi, was set to bring together leaders from several African countries to discuss trade, healthcare, education, technology, and stronger diplomatic ties.

The decision was taken as a precaution to ensure the safety of visiting delegates and officials. Both India and the African Union agreed that delaying the event for some time would be the best step under the current situation.

Health authorities across the world are closely monitoring the Ebola outbreak, especially in parts of Central Africa where cases have been reported. In response, India has increased health checks at airports and issued advisories for travellers arriving from affected regions. Officials have confirmed that there are no Ebola cases in India at present.

Even though the summit has been delayed, officials say the partnership between India and African nations remains strong. Over the years, India and Africa have worked closely in areas such as healthcare, infrastructure, business, and education, and both sides are expected to continue their cooperation.

This is not the first time Ebola has affected the India–Africa Summit. Back in 2014, a similar outbreak in West Africa had also forced India to postpone the event before it was later held successfully in 2015.

For now, the focus remains on public health and safety, while leaders on both sides hope the summit can be organised soon once the situation improves.
