Delhi Likely To See Unseasonably Warm February, IMD Predicts Day Temperatures Near 30°C

New Delhi : The National capital is on track for an unusually warm February this year, with daytime temperatures climbing close to 30°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast. The city has already experienced above-normal warmth, with Sunday’s maximum temperature reaching 28.5°C about four degrees higher than what is typical for mid-February in the capital.

An analysis of temperature data for February 1–15 shows that New Delhi’s average maximum temperature so far this month has been around 25°C, which is nearly 2°C above the long-period average for this period. Throughout the first half of February, daytime temperatures remained consistently elevated, exceeding normal levels on most days. The highest maximum recorded in this span was approximately 28.6°C on February 10.

Weather experts note that although a weak western disturbance may bring isolated drizzles later in the week, a significant and sustained drop in temperatures appears unlikely. The IMD expects the maximum to stay near the high 20s, with a brief 1–2°C dip possible where light rainfall occurs. Afterward, temperatures are expected to climb again.

Meteorologists have highlighted that similar warm spells have occurred in recent Februaries, and in past years the mercury has occasionally surpassed 30°C toward the month’s end. For instance, last year the city saw its highest February temperatures touch the low 30s.

Night-time lows this February have remained closer to average, with minimums hovering around 11–13°C and occasional predictions of a slight rise later in the week. Overall, data suggests that winter chill is receding earlier than usual, raising the prospect that summer-like warmth could arrive sooner in the region.
